Book Purse

Remember the Book wreath I made a while ago? Need help reminding?
I bought the book solely for its thickness and coverart so I could make it into a bookpurse.
And now I finally did :D
The tutorial I used is made by Hungry Panda from Hungry Panda Clothing

Don't worry, I read the book before I made it into a book wreath ;)
It's a fairy tale book, where the tales have been rewritten so they would be more "appropriate" for children, needless to say it was weird in some ways ...
The cover after getting rid of the pages.

And done!

Instead of velcro, I made a system using buttons/knippers (I don't know their English name ^^')

Spread open, it fits quite a lot of things ^^

Now i feel like making more! We're going to clean the attic at my grandspa's house so I hope I can find some nice old thick books there ^^

Faux Fur Peter Pan Collar

I decided to jump on the bandwagon and make a peter pan collar out of faux tiger fur I had lying around. I used this tutorial by Caitlin from Coletterie.
This is the result!

The other side

I must admit I like the fluffier ones better but I had this fur and thought why not :) Might look cute on a black sweater and brown pants!

If you're making this collar, here are some tips:
- The pattern doesn't include seam allowance, so don't forget that! (stupid me forgot it ^^')
- When you cut out the paper pattern make sure it fits your neck like you want it (It's a bit to small for my neck, so the next one I'm making will be longer in the back)
- If you don't have a cord, use ribbon or perhaps crochet yarn into a cord.
- When you make the little balls, sew the lines, put the end of your ribbon inside and add some leftover fabric scraps in there so you can a puffier ball.

This vacation I don't have to study so I'm free for craft projects! yay! I finished this collar, a book purse, a skirt, working on a skirt and on a little harry potter project. I love this!! ^^

Christmas Market in Maastricht

Last Sunday we (my family and I) decided to go to the Christmas market in Valkenburg, a city in the Netherlands. This Christmas market is held in caves which makes it very special.
We arrived in Valkenburg and people everywhere!!! We forgot something quite obvious... sunday = people free = lots of people visiting Christmas Markets = lots of people in a cave...
And my mum doesn't like caves either so it was decided we went to Maastricht.

The pedestrians bridge for entering Maastricht.

First we went to eat and drink something, some regular shopping and once it turned dark we went to the Christmas Market.

While the other were enjoying a cup of gluwein, I decided to look around. There weren't that many nice shops and if there were, I didn't take pictures ... I bought things :P

On our way back to the car we stumbled upon this building, looks very spooky doesn't it?

It was a nice trip, though I still am curious about the Christmas Market in Valkenburg. Hopefully I'll get there next year ^^

Bodyline Review: Tie107, Tie109, Tie117, bag093, L024, S261 (Image heavy)

Disclaimer: Everything is bought with my own money!

Shop: Bodyline Japan
For the whole month of November bodyline was having a 1$/1€ Airmail shipping fee, so I decided to finally give in and order some things!
The're having another one in December, this time for 5$ airmail fee.
For the ones that don't know Bodyline it's a Japanese online store (with some real stores too) selling lolita clothing and cosplay.
Anyway, I had been eyeing their music note jsk for a while now and decided that it would be my big item ^^

First up,
Site 4/5
You can select 4 different currencies which makes price reading easier. The site is well balanced and easy to navigate. I do know from experience (I like browsing around looking at pretty things) that the website can go very slow if they are having sales, but luckily it didn't this time!

Communication 5/5
I asked them a question about the shipping and customs and got an answer back in 12 hours.
But their English is quite bad so don't ask difficult questions, just keep it simple ;)

Shipping 4/5
I chose Air mail because of the sale. Who can resist 1€ shipping! I sure can't :D
Time table:
4th Nov: placed order and payed
6th Nov: got tracking number
16th Nov: Received package
(I was so glad Customs didn't snatch it!)
It was shipped in a plastic grey bag, so no padded envelope but I knew that wasn't going to happen, even though you pay for it. Oh well.

Now onto the good stuff
Items:
Tie107: piano tie
Tie109: music cord tie
Tie117: music note tie
Bag093: music note bag
Socks261: knee high socks
L024: music note jsk
Can you tell I love music ;)

Ties:
Price (Nov 2011): 2 €
          (Dec 2011): 3 €

These were ordered for my brother. He plays piano and wanted nice ties when he plays at concerts.
I really like the ties, they are a bit thinner and longer than normal ones.
The piano keys and music cord tie are the prettiest I think.
Overall: Happy with them! If I ever want to buy a special tie, I'll probably look at bodylines website again (if they offer cheap shipping).

Bag093
Price (Nov 2011): 9 €
         (Dec 2011): 10 €
I was expecting it to be made of plastic because that's the feeling I got from the online picture but it's made out of cotton (if I had read the description box I would have known)

One side has bows attached to the handles, the other side has little hearts.
If you get closer, the print is a bit pixeled but I don't mind that.

The inside, just plain black cotton

The sides, you can fit rather much in there which I need in a bag!
Overall: Pleased with my buy! I still need to use it, after that I will update this to let you know if it's sturdy enough.

Socks261
Price (Nov 2011): 3 €
          (Dec 2011): 3 €
First of all, on the online picture they seem more white on black to me but they turned out to be pink... and I have nothing pink... like nothing. So I don't know if I can use these. Perhaps I can coordinate them with the musicjsk I bought. Second of all, they fit great, and are quite warm!
Overall: Good price - quality.

JSK L024
Price (Nov 2011): 28 €
         (Dec 2011): 30 €

The Music note jsk, the reason why I ordered.
I love it! It's so cute ^^
Now some close-ups
The neckline
close-up of the pretty rose lace used.
The print, which is the same like the bag, also a little bit pixeled but not noticable when wearing it.
The fabric used is stretchy cotton, not thin, just thick enough.

The zipper, it works well. Though while wearing I found that it irritated me but I wasn't wearing a blouse (I was in a hurry to try it on ;) ) Have to see if it's better with a blouse under it.

As you can see isn't the jsk lined but the fabric is thick enough to prevent see-through.
The seams are finished and after my search I just found one loose thread.

The detachable bows. One negative point, the brooche backs are sewn on the lower side of the back of the bow so when used, the bows hang downwards, being sloppy. I'll probably detach the back and sew them back on, on a proper height.

The strechting on the back.
Bodyline says it's good for measurements up to 100 cm in the bust. I don't think it would be very comfortable for people with a 100 cm bust. I'd recommand 'till 96-98 cm.
I removed the white ribbon as it looked ridiculous stretched out...

Items: 4/5 (because of the zipper)
Overall: I'm happy with the jsk. I hope I can fix the zipper irritation problem and wear this baby out!
Will update with a coord post soon!

Will I order again from Bodyline Japan? Definitely! But like with every other store, first search reviews of all the items you have eye on. Because I know it can be hit or miss with bodyline!

Gift received!

A while ago I joined a give-away on Crafty Mitchell (blog & etsy). You could win one of her cute crochet monkeys!
And I won! yay ^^
I choose a monkey in my favourite colour combination; Red & Black
It arrived this week!
Here he/she is

Okay, that's a bit flashy,
That's better :)
He/she says hi! Still need to talk with the monkey some more to find out if it's a boy or girl and perhaps it would tell me its name...

Or perhaps any of you know a name for this cute fellow?

Speed drawing!

Monika from Sweet & Tiny and I did a birthday swap in the beginning of November. (pictures will surely follow!) Because of her love for the Japanese lolita clothing style I drew her a picture, featuring things lolita like which are Bows, Pearls and Roses ;)
When I started it, I thought that it would be fun to see the progress so I filmed it.
Here's the film. It was difficult to film as I didn't have a camera stand so I had to use my right hand to hold te camera filming my left hand :D
Sorry for the black'n white thing in the middle, I have no clue how that happened?!

Story
The story concerns Sumire Iwaya, a journalist at a major newspaper. A career woman in a society that does not handle successful women well, Sumire suffers from depression and anxiety. She also has hobbies that are very un-feminine, such as being a fan of pro wrestling, K-1, and shounen animes.

After her fiancé leaves her for his mistress and Sumire is demoted at work, she stumbles across a young injured homeless man in a box outside her home. She takes him in and becomes attached to him. As a joke, she says she wants to keep him as a pet. To her surprise, the young man agrees. She names him Momo (モモ, after her beloved dog from childhood.) Sumire provides room and board, and Momo provides unconditional love and loyalty. Sumire says there is no sex in their relationship, and she will only sleep with men who have the "three highs": higher pay, higher education and higher height (i.e. taller than her 170 cm.) Despite this, there is a definite sexual subtext to their relationship.

Sumire later learns that Momo's real name is Takeshi Gouda, and that he is a dance prodigy who studied classical ballet but was too short to take the lead roles. He switched to modern dance, and lived a semi-homeless life before meeting Sumire. Momo passes himself off as Sumire's second cousin.

Complications arise when Sumire is reunited with her old crush from Tokyo University, Shigehito Hasumi. Hasumi meets all of Sumire's requirements. However, Sumire cannot quite open up to Hasumi-senpai, or give up her attachment to Momo. For example, Sumire lets Momo call her by her personal name, while she struggles to let Hasumi call her "Iwaya" instead of "Iwaya-san."
(edit from source )

What do I think?

When I first read the plot of the drama, I didn't really know what to expect, a business women who keeps someone she found on the ground before her apartment as her pet sounds like you'll get an ecchi sex plot...
But 'cause Matsumoto Jun played in it, and I'm a big fan of him, I decided to give it a try. And I'm glad I did!
There's still some tension between them but it really starts as a pet and his owner and they grow to love each other for being there. The drama really grows on you!
It tells us that a woman (or man) first must allow herself to bring her true self out there before love can find her.
I love the way you can see Momo and Sumire growing closer and closer together through out the drama.
Koyuki and Matsujun's acting both was great, which gave a lot of chemistry! You'll be waiting for the moment Sumire and Momo get together for the whole length of the drama! And Matsumoto Jun really seemed like a dog in the series, so adorable!
I knew Matsujun could dance, 'cause of Arashi but I was quite impressed with his dance skills, though I think they should have shown us more, oh well.
The intro music, Darling by V6, is very upbeat and happy, quite the feeling you get from momo too :)
So if you're thinking about passing this drama because it just sounds weird, please try it and you'll get hooked!
In one sentence
Woof! I wanna be your pet!

Vampire requiem!

I finally gave in and ordered the Vampire Requiem Replica from DOL.
The red long one.
This is the real thing, which is a dress by Alice and the Pirates (from Baby the stars shine bright); don't you just love those names :D
I actually liked the short version more but it would have been to short on me. (I don't like my lolita dresses being above my knees)

This is the image of the replica, the middle one.
I also ordered a matching headdress and 2 pairs of gloves from another taobao shop (chinese online shop community)
Lets hope it arrives soon!

First try at Resin

Last year I bought some resin with a gift card from Schleiper. So far it's been sitting in my box for more than a year. Why you ask? Because I was scared of resin ... I didn't really know how to handle it, I wanted to try it (that's why I bought it) but still, you have to take several precautions, be precise and have patience. A few week back I thought, it's enough! and I tried resin for the first time!
Turned out to be easy! ^^
I used this great tutorial on threadbanger:

This is the packet I bought, it contains:
- Crystal resin part A
- Crystal resin part B
- Two measuring cups
- Two spatula
- Gloves

You also need a cup to mix in, something to cover up your mouth and it's better to work outside.
I start to work outside, then it began to rain so I had to move indoor, so the garage, leaving the gate open, seemed like the best spot.
You should carefully read the instructions on the package if you're new to this (not like said in the tutorial just eyeing it out ... she has experience. )

The general method is taking a mold or an icecubetray (which afterwards you can never ever use to make icecubes again, duh!) Then add a layer or resin, wait for it to dry, add another layer, add your paper or anything (flowers, beads, glitter, ...), wait for it to dry and add new layers.
I tried some, and here are my results.

This is going to be a pattern holder or just something nice to look at :D A paper weight or something.
It's Japanese paper that you see in there.

Here are my icecubes, which I filled with glitter because glitter rules ^^
For the silver ones I used the ultra fine silver glitter from Sophie & Toffee, the other ones are from a craft store. I must say, the one from Sophie & Toffee is indeed ultra fine! It gave a nice diversity to the other glitters. The one on the right at the first row has glitter and an origami lucky star and there's another one with beads in.
I'll be turning these in pendants or hang them on a keychain or something. We'll see ;)

Some tips:
- wait long enough untill the first layer is dry. Or you'll end up with paper that sinks to the bottom and begins to take strange shapes. Patience people!! (and especially to myself ^^')
- you can throw lots of things in there but be sure you have them ready to throw in!

Blog news!

As you perhaps know, I own a second blog called All About Deco
but I also own a third blog, So Why Architecture? which was formally in Dutch and about my schoolwork.
Because of that schoolwork I neglected it... how ironic.
Well I've decided to start with it again, one post per month or so
and it will go about architecture. Things I have seen on trips, intersting articles on the internet about architecture, and so on...
It's mostly for me but if you enjoy reading about and looking at architecture, feel free to join :)

What my life is like

I knew there was a list somewhere with things about architecture students, I copied it here and removed the ones that weren't aplicable to me and added some comments and new ones :)

You Know You're An Architecture Student When:

- you're spending 90% of the time when you're awake, behind the computer.
- you're quicker reachable on mail than with a cellphone (because of point above)
- you analyze everything as if it were a building.
- concept of time is not forward, but a countdown from the time a project is due ("What time is it?""4 hours 'till").
- you slice your finger, and the first thing you think of is if you'll be able to finish your model. and if it's presentable
- you say "It's only midnight- I have plenty of time to finish."
- you're not ashamed of drooling in class anymore, especially in Structures
- The idea that you have a room to live in outside of studio is just a myth.
- You draw perspectives of your friends room on your  homework just for the fun of it.
- Whenever you finish a project and don't have any studio work to do, you are constantly wondering why you aren't in studio working
- You buy trace paper in mass quantities.
- You understand what 4B, 2B, B, HB, H, 2H, and 4H are and have lots of each type.
- YOU ALWAYS WRITE IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. (I am trying to do this )
- The biggest decision you have to make near the end of the term is "pencil, or ink?"
- You always have a supply of bandaids around for xacto knife cuts.
- You have a 30, 60, 90 and a 45, 45, 90 degree triangle. Or two. Or three. Or more. (One for measuring, one for cutting, one that actually measures straight, one for if I've lost the other ones)
- You keep around adjustable triangles too just in case.
- You never have enough wall space to pin things up.
- You always have a supply of portable and non perishable food.
- You can go for days without sunlight. (You go to class in the dark, you come home in the dark).
- You put up everything on your walls with drafting tape.
- Push pins become a valuable commodity.
- Computers are known only as the white box of death. (They keep crashing on you).
- you can live without human contact, food or daylight, but if you can't print, it's chaos.
- Pencil smudges and ink smears are the bane of your existance.
- You start competing with each other for number of hours without sleep.
- Your four basic food groups are candy, caffeine, coffee, and pretzels. (no coffee for me, but protein drinks and such)
- Time spent with friends must be scheduled way in advance.
- you've slept more than 20 hours non-stop in a single weekend.
- you've listened to all your CDs/itunes (in one night)
- Days don't exist anymore, everything is based on number of hours of work. (Of which there are a lot).
- you take notes and messages with a rapidograph and colour markers.
- your parents have more of a social life than you.
- your friends get more sleep in one night than you do in one week. (That depends on which week, if we have a jury week, this is sad but true)
- you consider 3AM an early night.
- "scoring" involves an X-Acto blade
- you've got more photos of buildings than of actual people.
- you've ever dreamt about your models...
- you start wearing all black. (sometimes, I do like my colour!)
- you have no life, and admit it.
- you can use Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD, Revit Architecture, Vectorworks, Sketch-up, and make a web page, but you don't know how to use Excel. (I do have basic excel skills)
- you refer to great architects (dead or alive) by the first name as if you knew them. (Frank, Corbu, Mies, Norman...)..
- you ask Santa Clause for architecture supplies.
- Everytime you tell someone what your Major is they just look at you and say, "wow!"
- you CELEBRATE space and OBSERVE your birthday.
- you think it's possible to CREATE space.
- you fight with inanimate objects.
- you always carry your deodorant.
- you've danced YMCA (a fav clubdance number) with excellent choreography at 3 am and without a single drop of alcohol in your body.
- you see holidays only as extra sleeping time.
- your roommates say "good morning," and you reply "good night."
- after all of your expenses, you can't afford to pay attention
- you hear the same song on the radio 3 or more times in one night.
- you spend more time in studio than in your own bed.
- you only leave studio to buy supplies.
- you see showering as a waste of time.
- everything you eat comes in single serving baggies
- the only building on campus with its lights on is your studios'.
- you receive mail in studio.
- you strangle your roommate because he said he stayed up late studying.
- your Friday night is 68 hours long. (sometimes yes)
- you know how much a cubic foot of concrete weighs (150lbs). haha duhh who doesn't know that?
- you understand why architects have glasses and white hair.
- you can conceptually compose the food on your plate.
- you think "X-Acto Blade Throwing" is a sport.
- you only buy groceries once a month.
- you start to critique a radio selection's selection of songs.
- you bring your friends to studio to keep you company. (or enlist them to help you do your project...)
- you have memorized every radio commercial that airs after 10PM.
- you confuse today and tomorrow.
- you can write your thesis paper by procrastinating.
- you count the number of days (not hours) you've been awake.
- Homecoming" happens once a week.
- you start using words your instructor uses.
- you contemplate suicide 3 times a day.
- you contemplate dropping your major 3 times a day. (oh yes! but we're hanging on!)
- You wear your USB Drive around your neck (on my keys, but still it's close)
- The trunk of your car contains wood glue, a backup roll of trace, and a blanket... just in case.
- You daydream about the euphoric feeling of an ultra soft drafting brush on bare skin
- You are constantly picking drafting dots off the bottom of your shoes
- You think of "You know you're an Architecture major when..." lines in studio at 2 a.m.
- You realize that when someone is talking about French Curves they aren't talking about the girl they met over Spring Break
- Your roommate acts surprised if you ever come out of your apartment
- When asked what day it is you have no idea, but always know how long until a project is due
- You use your alarm to tell you when to go to sleep
- You know what Tacky Glue tastes like
- You avoid eating, sleeping, or going to the hospital because you need to finish a model
- All of your teachers wear black only black (jup!)
- When asked if you like the Guggenheim you reply Which one?
- You have an ample supply of B HB H & F and know the difference between them
- You think mechanical pencils are for sissies
- You have listened to every song on your iPod within two days
- Telling your teacher your major actually gets you excused from work
- You are a "fourth year," not a senior cause you definately aren't graduating any time soon.
- You know how to silk screen your own t-shirts :-)
- You know how awesome those black sketch books made of recycled paper are.
- You have waited three hours in the middle of the night during competition week to print out a project, just to realize the damn plotter is spazzing out and there's no one to fix it until the next day.
- You know that professors aren't required to come to class, ever.
- Professors are always called by their first names, obviously.

Problems!

Finally I'm able to post something on blogger!
This thing has been giving me problems for over 2 weeks, I can't post on my own blog or comment on any posts from any blog on blogger. Has anyone else been having this problem too lately?
I can't change things to the website or anything, really frustrating!
It will be quiet here some more until the end of october - beginning of november, because I have a big project to finish at the 8 of november.
I have some posts ready but they still need their photos, so hopefully I'll be able to add them to the posts :s
In the meantime, you can always take a look at pinterest.com, and if you have an account, you can follow me if you want: http://pinterest.com/riechan/
Hope you have a nice week!
And
Happy Halloween

yay it worked!

Sophie & Toffee Review 4#

Disclaimer: this post is sponsored by Sophie & Toffee, but I will give my honest opinion on these products. Thankyou so much for the products!

Some time ago, mailman waked me in the morning with a package from Sophie & Toffee ^^
If that isn't a good start of a day, I don't know what is :D

Here's the loot:

Black Lightweight Paper Clay - Japanese Hearty Brand (click)
Red Lightweight Paper Clay - Japanese Hearty Brand (click) (these are now on discount!)
This is really erally really light weight! I picked up the package with the two and I was like: "Is there anything in here?" Sooo soft to touch and to work with. It doesn't feel damp at all like my other light weight clay. The red colour is lovely! I made a few little items with (no pictures yet) they are relatively easy to mold and make things with. I like them! If the item is dry it's squishy, very funny :D
Some (better) reviews about this clay, can you find at All About Deco, here

Polymer Clay Canes - Daisy Flower in Blue (click)
Polymer Clay Canes - Apple Fruit (click)
Snowflakes Polymer Clay Sticks (click)
First time I'm seeing canes in real life, hehe :D. I haven't used these in any deco projects yet but they are really lovely, and easy to cut through!

Round Lady Gray Cameo  (click)
Big Round Lady Cameo in Gray (click)
Lady Cameo Cabochons (click)
Next to flowers and lace/ruffles, cameos are my big all time love! Sophie & Toffee has 3 designs with a woman's head on (they also have one with a rose) I ordered the right ones before and loved them very much! That big one would be great as a pendant on a pearl necklace I think ^^.

Realistic Ice Cream Scoops Cabochons in brown & white (click)
Super Big Black Classic Bow Cabochons (click)
I knew the bow was going to be big but this big?! Wow! I wanted to use it on my mobile phone but this size is a bit to large, still I like the design of the bow and I'll find a use for it! The scoops are great, they have a real kind of texture which I can't get making them myself.

Cute Small Panda Bear Cabochon (click)
Japanese Snow Rabbits Cabochons (click)
Fimo Poker Aces (click)
I love pandas so I was thrilled to find a panda cabochon in my package ^^

Exclusive Pink Plated Adjustable Ring Pad High Quality 8mm (click)
I was hoping the pink would be a bit more redish, turned out not to be but that's just me ^^'
I think this works great with some of their flower cabochons which you can see here (click)

Sophie & Toffee have given me this discount code to my readers, If you enter VALERIE10 on your checkout, you receive a discount of 10% of your purchase!
