Back! + shop

Hi!
I'm back from my musical-internship! Enjoyed the musical clips this week?
It has been the most amazing week from my life! Lot's of singing, dancing and great fun people,
what do you need more?
I am soooo happy I took the plunge and joined this!
At first I was scared that I wouldn't be good enough to join but during this camp I found out things about myself that I didn't know... like I can sing higher than I thought ^^
You'll get a post with pictures and more information somewhere this week!

As another kind of update,
I finally made a shop, feel free to have a look at it here or by clicking on the link in the right sidebar.
For now, there are just a small amount of items available but I'm hoping to change that! Available are crochet headbands, fabric rings and decoded pendants.

I'm away!

Hi, by now I'm sitting in the car with my mum driving to a place in Antwerp, Belgium.
I'm away from today 'till the 28th of August 'cause I'm joining a musical intern-ship ^^
We get lessons in singing, dancing and acting! And it ends with the musical on Saturday evening.
A girl who's graduating has made this into her graduation project. 
She has translated a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, called Whistle Down the Wind.
I had never heard of it before but it seems interesting. We're playing farmers from the 1950's.
Haha X3 Because I have to get my own costume together, we (my mum and I) dived into my grandmother's clothing (may she rest in peace). Most of her clothing is a bit to big for me but that's fine. 
Expect lot's of pics when I get back ^~
Oh and as some sort of tribute to musical, you'll get another musical song (almost) every day 'till I'm back ^^

8/50 Easy DIY Jewelry organizer Tutorial

I have been meaning to make one of these for about 2 years ... and now I finally set myself to it and made it! yay ^^ Number 8 of the 50 projects in 2010 list

Items you need are:
  • wood
  • long nails (8 cm)
  • a hammer
  • things to hang your jewelry hanger on the wall (those triangle hooks)
  • a pencil, a ruler
  • To decorate your wood: paint and paintbrush. I recommend acrylic paint. or paper and glue.
  • To decorate your nails: ribbon, glue, stickers, stones, ...


I made two of them, one for me and one for my mum. I painted mine with red - black paint. Didn't turn out like I would have wanted but it doesn't seem so bad hanging on the wall. My mum her's is decoupaged, if you don't know how, I made a little tutorial some while ago, check it out.
After the paint dried, set out the point where you want to hammer in your nails. I made sure I stayed about 5 cm of the side.

Than get all your decogear out of your box/cabinet/whatever :D and start decoing. 
You can put some ribbon around the nails, just put glue on your ribbon and wrap it around the nail's neck?
I also added gems and roses on the nailtops.
Add you hanger on the back.

Present ^^

Yesterday I got little presents from Tiff, the writer of Hikaria.com, 'cause I am a good follower ^^

A mini tart cake of felt! and look, Violet made this a while ago !
Can't wait to make it but I'm going to save it for a day when I'm feeling droopy. This will sure make me happy ^^


Next, I found these cute little buttons! Don't know where they are going on yet but I'm sure I'll find a place.
Maybe I'll turn one of them into a ring ^^

Easy cooking: apple crumble

I call this easy cooking 'cause if I can cook it, anyone can cook it!
This is a very simple and quick dessert which you can put together with ingredients you find in your cabinet!
I made this last weekend, when my mum threw her birthday party and it was a hit! ^^
Let's get to them right away:
this will serve 6 people

Ingredients: 

  • 6 large apples
  • 400 gr sifted flour
  • 250 gr butter (room temperature)
  • 250 gr of brown sugar (if you don't have this, you can also use white sugar, but brown is just better for the crumble)
  • 100 gr of white sugar, you can also use cane sugar.
  • cinnamon (if liked)
  • oven
How to:

- Peel the apples, remove the core and cut them into little chunks
- Pour the 100 gr of white/cane sugar onto your apples and mingle them. Here you can add cinnamon, I don't like it so I didn't.
- Preheat your oven at 180° C
- This is an optional step: put your apples into a pot and heat them, stir occasionally so it won't burn. Get them off the heat when they are a bit mashy but still chunky... (XD I hope you understand this?), remove all excess juice you got by heating it.
- Put your apples in a baking tray
- Mix (with your hands or a spoon) the 400 gr of flour with the 250 gr of butter and brown sugar.
- Crumble the dough over the apples, make sure the apples are completely covered with crumbles.
- Put the baking tray with your apple crumble for 25-30 min in the oven, if the top looks goldy brown, it's done!
You can eat it warm with icecream (yumyum!) or cold.
If you don't like apples that much, you can trade them for strawberries, (blue)berries, ...
In contribution to the optional step, you can also first put your apples (without crumbles on top) in the oven for 15 min, drain all the juice that got free due to heating and add your crumbles on top, than put them in the oven again for 15 min or longer if needed.

Photograph Friday

sorry for the lack of updates this week ^^;
I started working at my internship again. It's been better than my first week in July,
they are giving me more work and we go to more buildingsites. They even let me design an apartment in a building from a famous Swiss architect ^^ How cool is that!
Well onto the photograph off today,


This is a picture from my schooltrip to Switzerland and Italy.
It's a chapel made by Le Corbusier in Ronchamp (France); the Chapel of NĂ´tre Dame du Haut.
This is actually the less famous side of the building :) 
But I like this side too with the trees and the sky.

Back to childhood: Salt dough

Actually I can't remember making things with salt dough when I was a child but I bet some of you can :D
It's a very cheap way to get soft clay.
To make this you'll need:
- 200 gr flour
- 200 gr salt
- 100 ml water
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
Add the flour and salt into a bow, stir, add the water and oil. Knead, use your hands to make a smooth bowl of dough. If it's too sticky, add some flour. Add water if it's too crumbly.
And done!
My working place:
Tools I used:
- something to protect your workplace
- flour to keep your dough from sticking to your tools and hands
- paint (acrylic)
- a rolling pin
- everything you use with regular clay like wooden tools.
- a cutting tool
- You can also use stamps, toothpicks, wire, cookiecutters, ...

Here are some of the things I made before baking



When all your items are finished, preheat your oven to 180°, when on temperature bake them for 20 min..
If you have no hurry, you can also let them air dry.
I'd recommend air drying 'cause when I baked them they'll rise (something which I didn't think about...)
So you get these results:
This was a flat moon, now it looks more like a fortune cookie...

And this was a flat macaron half... you can see it rose below the indications.
I had this with all the more rounded items. Solution? Get out your sandpaper and sand it all away.


Colouring salt dough is very easy, add some drops of paint to your dough which will lead to this really cool marble effect

or knead some more and you'll get a really solid colored dough. Something that wouldn't work with my DAS clay. If you don't want to add paint now, you can always paint it afterwards or leave it as it is.

I'm pretty proud of these flowers... Took some time to make but I love love LOVE the result ^^
Here you can see what kind of colour you can create with adding paint to the dough





If you have some left-over dough, don't worry, store it in a air-tight container and use it another time.
Don't forget to seal your items with a coat of varnish everywhere.

Changes

As you can see I'm changed the background for my blog, thought it was time for something new ^^

Oh, I have a question for you,
I made earrings on Friday with my niece and my mum thinks mine are weird and too big while my niece says she really likes them.
